My dear friend Perry had this inspiring question:<\/div>\n<div>I think I have a good question for you. I read The Age of Miracles the other day, and I wonder why people have such a hard time blending science into a good story. (Yes, I saw Prometheus and cringed the whole time). What&#8217;s up with this?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.418595618179774\">\n<p>ha! science and story<br \/>\nno kidding. I believe that the professors who teach us<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.356227704449333\">\n<p>SUCK<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.302277963201587\">\n<p>SUCK SUCK SUCK!!!!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.408673599184027\">\n<p>What is science without context? nothing! Even the boiling temperature of water is affected by context<br \/>\nAKA the story&#8230;is there salt inthe water? or what is the altitude of the water?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.395728970484164\">\n<p>so, it&#8217;s BS to try to do science with out story<br \/>\nand as a matter of fact,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.199016706894182\">\n<p>EVERY HYPOTHESIS EVER CREATED IS A STORY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.317004791726653\">\n<p>so&#8230;when scientists try to separate the soul from the spirit that way they are kidding themselves&#8230;and hurting the thing they are studying<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.346383052104672\">\n<p>and when ENGLISH professors&#8230;or more accurately LITERATURE professors do not address the very important issue of why narrative or story is vitally important to every human endeavor&#8230;they are breaking up the floating ice on which they stand<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.317852721640121\">\n<p>what is your relevance, scientist? If you don&#8217;t have a purpose for what you study, why should we care? And if you cannot explain your purpose, what earthly good are you?&#8230;and they only way to explain a purpose is by<br \/>\nTELLING A STORY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.340648699344675\">\n<p>which is why you are supposed to pay attention in english class&#8230;and why english professors suck for not making sure that their relevant information is not BURIED under ridiculous side issues<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.330248660390777\">\n<p>so the reason people have a hard time blending science into a story is<br \/>\n#1 it&#8217;s hard to tell a good story<br \/>\n#2 nobody is teaching it<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<p>of course, I ended this by asking:<\/p>\n<div><strong><a id=\"js_6\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/writtenbymurphy\">Murphy Daley<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div id=\"id.405049359547062\">\n<p>you still there?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not all facebook conversations are inane.
