A couple weeks ago, Veronica said “Mommy, I don’t know how to turn off the water.”<\/p>\n
I had been messing on my computer and hadn’t been paying attention. She was getting ready for bed. There is a process.<\/p>\n
I drag her kicking and resisting to begin the process<\/p>\n
get naked<\/p>\n
use the toilet<\/p>\n
floss teeth<\/p>\n
brush teeth<\/p>\n
get in shower<\/p>\n
wash face<\/p>\n
wash body<\/p>\n
wash hair<\/p>\n
turn off water<\/p>\n
dry off with towel<\/p>\n
take towel to bedroom<\/p>\n
don pajamas<\/p>\n
don socks<\/p>\n
read story<\/p>\n
turn on nightlight<\/p>\n
turn off overhead light<\/p>\n
turn on sonos music<\/p>\n
parent sits with Veronica until she falls asleep<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
THIS IS EXHAUSTING<\/p>\n
this has been the bedtime routine for basically her entire life.<\/p>\n
when she asked me how to turn off the water, she surprised me. I had left her on the toilet portion of the ritual.<\/p>\n
She went forward without me and did all the rest.<\/p>\n
That was the biggest change to me. She had truly independently taken on this process.<\/p>\n
it made me cry a little.<\/p>\n
And it rocked my world. It seems that we might have 2 extra hours free in an evening.<\/p>\n
