This is why I was first horrified by Palin’s nomination. Wasilla is not a lovely town.
But hey, it IS a town, and not every town is cute. Slate has this tour of the town of my teen years.
I approve of her choice to invest in a sports complex. I believe I’ve read an enormous portion of the books lining that library’s shelves, and I love the Wasilla public library dearly. But lets be real. Wasilla has a teen population that may or may not graduate from high school. Education is not so valued in the woods.
A sports complex for the community is a lot more practical.
Oh yeah…I have a new handy catchphrase from this post “hipster douchebag.” The post is long but worth reading.
“hipster douchebag” eh? i must say i’m a bit in shock. obama supporters are more in support of peace and equality – not fashion/trends etc.
Well, it was a parody.
I thought it was really funny, and i have met these hipster douchebag types.
They existed long before Obama’s campaign began.
In San Francisco at the hip underground hangouts and at the Hollywood creative-type hotspots that I’ve spent time in.
I don’t like to hear political opinions become the “cool” thing that everyone is doing, equating informed citizenship with the latest hair product.
I know there are many people who take it more seriously than the hipster douchebags. They are something of a blight.
Informed debate? Discussions of political issues that lead to greater understanding on both sides? Let us have more of THAT!
