That\u2019s how I\u2019ve been living in this pandemic. Like it was a\nweekend. It\u2019s stretching out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m doing these same things again and again, and I am not\ndoing them well. It\u2019s time to act like I live here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Things have changed, while I was thinking they would revert.\nThe world has settled into a groove when I thought we were at a traffic light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I joined a virtual summit this week about how to communicate\nvirtually. How\u2019s that for meta? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But we are all talking through cameras and laptop speakers.\nI think that I need to get better at it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last month it was enough just to turn my camera on. But almost everyone is doing that now. I will need to bring more to the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How can I bring more of myself to my online communications?\nHow can I be there for others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, I could buy a better microphone. And better lighting. I\nmay do that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But one of the keynotes at the summit had another slant:\nbring more of my best self. Fatima Doman had a talk about using authentic\nstrengths while communicating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I know this technology. It\u2019s not the lighting, it\u2019s the\nlove. It\u2019s the welcome and the curiosity that makes my communications addictive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And when I say addictive, I mean addictive for ME. Sure, I\nwant other people to want to talk to me. But I want to have my meetings and\nconversations be a sincere delight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That means I can\u2019t phone it is. I have to bring my attention\nto it, and find the miracle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There will always be a miracle. It\u2019s my job to spend enough\ntime and attention to find it. It might not take long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m not willing to settle for short-term living. Wherever\nthe horizon is, it is too short. I need to aim past it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019ve been falling short. I\u2019m going to get up, dust myself\noff and try again, with my expectations set for endurance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
