A big part of my job as project manager is to make plans.\nPeople need a plan to get things done. When I make a plan, the best thing in\nthe world is to be able to predict what will be happening in the next little\nbit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s what a plan is: I will do this, and this will be the\nresult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plans are like science- they love to be sure and stable.\nReliably executeable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the world changes under us. We use what information we\nknow, and then we find out more. Then, as more people find out more even bigger\nchanges happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I remember the plans that we made for COVID a year ago, back\nwhen it was still called the Coronavirus. I took steps and made concessions.\nAnd then I found out more and did things differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was only a year ago but it seems very distant now. I had\nsuch limited information, and plans were made and remade on a very frequent\nbasis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reality is, things are always changing. But I can\u2019t help\nbut make plans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m a kid with a set of blocks. I will stack them, build\nthem with delight and then they get knocked down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are always knocked down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plans are what I do, and yet I also know no battle plan\nsurvives first contact with the enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The blocks crash. They always crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s sad when they are knocked down. But the happiest kids\nstart making a new stack immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m not always the happiest kid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it helps to remember that the blocks are all still\nthere. I can build again, and this time it will be magnificent. Until it falls\nagain, but I don\u2019t have to think about that yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Something new is ready to be created, and I can\u2019t wait to\nget started.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
